How do I install the NightRoute client on macOS?
Download the signed .pkg from your account dashboard, run it, and approve the system extension once in System Settings. The installer registers a background agent that auto-reconnects after sleep. To uninstall, run the same pkg with the --uninstall flag and it removes every file it wrote.
Does NightRoute really keep no logs?
Correct. The tunnel servers run on diskless images and route systemd-journal to /dev/null. Cure53 audited the fleet in 2025, and the redacted report is linked from the transparency page. If a court order arrives, there is simply no dataset to comply with.
Which protocols does the client support?
WireGuard by default, with OpenVPN over TCP as a fallback for networks that block UDP. The client picks the faster option at connect time and silently fails over if the chosen transport stalls. You can pin a protocol in Settings > Advanced.
Can I run NightRoute on my router?
Yes, if the firmware supports WireGuard. The dashboard ships a config generator that outputs a .conf file compatible with OpenWrt, pfSense, MikroTik, and the ASUS Merlin build. A router counts as one device in your plan.
Why is my speed lower than my ISP advertises?
A VPN always costs some overhead, because every packet is re-encrypted and reflected through another hop. Expect to lose five to ten percent on a WireGuard tunnel to a nearby region, and more if you pick a distant exit. Select the auto option for the lowest-latency server.
How does the kill switch work?
The client installs a pf rule on macOS and an nftables rule on Linux that blocks all traffic on the default interface whenever the tunnel is down. Nothing leaks during reconnects. Turn it off in Settings > Network only if you need to bypass the tunnel for a specific workflow.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. Any paid plan can be refunded in full within thirty days of the charge. Reply to the receipt email with the word Refund and the credit clears in three to five business days, depending on your bank. After thirty days we pro-rate on a case-by-case basis.
What happens when I cancel?
Your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period and then stops renewing. Account data is deleted after thirty days; invoices are kept seven years for tax reasons. If you want the account purged immediately, send a deletion request and we act within three business days.
